There never seem to be the right first post or the right first sentence so I thought I’d just start from something that have hugely contributed to the existence of this blog anyway: spaniel addiction.
Having always been fascinated by multitude of dog breeds and wanting to experience bringing up many different ones, I never thought I would be so completely ‘spanielled’ by one little spaniel π
With her rambunctious, smiley self, Jazz redesigned my life from the moment she entered it. She made me into a morning person even though I thought this impossible. My job has often required me to start days very early for many years but I hated that part for as long as I can remember. At first, when her Majesty The Chubster wanted to commence every day at 4.30am I felt like a zombie. I would like to tell you the many stages of falling in love with sunrise followed but that was not the case. Simply one morning I woke up and couldn’t wait to start the day with this furry energy ball.
Jazz’s joy of life is to me her most captivating feature. It doesn’t mean she is constantly frantic with things to do and places to see but she does everything with so much positive energy. When she rests she makes me feel relaxed and when we go out through the doors her “this is the best day of my life” attitude is so incredibly infectious.
Having met many spaniels I know she’s not the only one with these attributes. For some people, this bouncy energy, strong hunting instincts and short attention span are difficult to deal with and for sure I didn’t find it easy at first having been brought up with much more naturally “quieter”, more ‘disciplined’ dogs. However, Jazz turned out to be, like many spaniels, very trainable little dog with huge willingness to please and work with me. Her independent yet velcro like nature is endearing.
I learnt a huge amount about positive methods of dog training in the first year of having Jazzy. I still do and will undoubtedly blog about it. Teaching her and playing with her became a hugely enjoyable hobbies to me and I am always on the look out to learn more on a dog thinking processes, enrichment and breed specific exercise.
At the time of me writing this Jazz is two and a half years old and I still sometimes look at her with disbelief that this beautiful, loving, perfect girl is mine. Having had to wait to own her for so long has definitely made me much more appreciative of the happiness she brings to an every day.
Jazz is the happiest by my side and this made me want to see the whole world become a dog friendly place whether that be trains, planes, Cafes or shops, spa centres and everything in between. I hate leaving her behind and I know she’d have a ball in a supermarket! π
In canine world, Jazz’s colour is called liver & white and when I first considered a spaniel puppy, I knew I wanted a coffee & cream one and heavily marked πΒ Little did I know I would have indeed had many a coffee cup to keep my eyes opened in the first 7 months of her life and that she would heavily marked me as a spaniel addict forever!

Great blog post! Spaniels are definitely the best breed! Itβs amazing how dogs can change your life for the better the moment they come into it. Love the pictures in this post too!
