Brilliant post! Well done jazz and of course wiola! My bella is just 6months old and I’m very keen on learning more to help her get the most from that inherent nature they have so I can focus her energy and spirit into something she really enjoys! I always thought that having a giant schnauzer would lead me into the world of training more than it did with my older pup, who is just content to be with me wherever I happen to go. Zoey (the giant) on the other hand, is a working dog and should be highly interested in anything engaging to the mind. Or so I thought (and was told). She is now just over a year old and is the most stubborn thing I have ever met! If she doesn’t feel like it or it just isn’t her way, no matter what the situation, it just doesn’t work!
Yesterday my husband threw her a piece of food and she caught it from across the room. But try to get her to catch a ball or play fetch in any way and she watches the ball until it’s done moving. Hide and seek consists of me hiding a toy and her brother finding it and pointing it out to her.. she seems unaware of how to use her sniffer!
Needless to say, I am intrigued by the training, but I think my girl came with some stubborn lazy bones! Good luck with Jazz though, it sounds amazing!
Haha there is always one isn’t there! The only Giant Schnauzer I knew in person wasn’t particularly interested in ball games either! She was worked in working trials for Police dogs (even though wasn’t one herself, owner just enjoyed it) and loved it – a lot of obstacle training, balancing on various obstacles, she loved jumping over things. They didn’t start until she was older though, don’t remember exactly but definitely older than a year. Good luck with finding what makes her want to engage her brain & body! 🙂
Thanks! Right now it’s just torturing her brother I think. She likes to steal the toys from him regardless of which toy it is. She also LOVES to run and be the alarm dog for the house. We’ll figure it out sooner or later!
